The US Firm's Autonomous Cabs Coming Soon London Streets Next Year.
American company Waymo has announced that its driverless taxis will be available for booking on London's streets beginning next year.

London will emerge as the pioneering European city to introduce an autonomous taxi service, akin to those already in use in San Francisco and four other American locations employing Waymo's advanced technology.
Preliminary Operations to Start with Human Specialists.
Waymo stated that its cars are now en route to London and will commence navigating on the city's public roads in the next few weeks with experienced operators supervising the vehicles.
Waymo – originally created as a spin-off from Google's autonomous vehicle program and belonging to the Alphabet family – indicated it would expand operations and work closely with the Department for Transport and London's transport agency to secure the necessary permissions to provide completely driverless trips by 2026.
Expanding Involvement in Self-Driving Transport In London.
Other organizations, including Uber and the British technology firm Wayve, have also announced their own plans to trial self-driving cabs in the capital next year.
This follows the UK authorities announcing it would accelerate guidelines enabling public testing to occur before regulation enabling driverless transport becomes law in full.

Comprehensive Introduction Expected After Automated Vehicles Act Comes into Force.
A broader introduction of autonomous vehicles is anticipated in the UK after the related legislation is fully implemented in 2027.

Waymo already has connections to Britain after launching its pioneering European research base in Oxford in 2019.
The company is additionally launching operations in Tokyo using Jaguar Land Rover EVs, marking its second current project beyond the United States.
“Evidence confirms how to safely expand fully autonomous transport solutions, and we are eager to bring the positive impacts of our systems to the United Kingdom,” said the company executive, noting that the technology was “making roads safer and transportation more accessible”.

Waymo began its self-driving cabs in 2020 and now states it has transported in excess of 10 million riders in the US.
Despite some concerning events, Waymo asserted that data revealed that vehicles driven by people were involved in incidents that hurt pedestrians significantly more frequently than its autonomous vehicles.
